Many foreign watch brands outsource production to domestic manufacturers, often through contracts covering labor and materials or supplied materials. Most of these products are entry-level models, which are produced in high volumes and are less complex to manufacture. After parts factories complete their OEM orders, they may retain leftover components, sometimes due to underreported inventory. These leftovers can include original single pieces like watch cases, dials, and straps.

The Role of Movements in Original Watches

Brands typically source movements from ETA or other movement manufacturers. Once the movement and casing are shipped, they are transported to the brand's own factory for assembly. Here, dustproofing, error correction, and quality inspection take place, ensuring the final product meets brand standards. This process gives birth to a truly original watch.

Now that we understand the concept, why are original watches limited to entry-level models? Many entry-level models use ETA movements, so the inner cover size and thickness of the watch head are already matched to ETA movements. Original parts only require purchasing the same type of ETA movement to complete assembly. However, for in-house movements, extra parts are useless because there is no substitute for the literal size, needle diameter, etc. Therefore, original mechanical watches so far only feature ETA movements or SW company movements.
