L.Leroy Vox Temporis: A Minute Repeater That Redefines How We Read Time
The Legacy Behind the L.Leroy Vox Temporis
Since 1785, L.Leroy has crafted timepieces for royalty and explorers, blending technical mastery with historical significance. The Vox Temporis continues this tradition, offering a modern interpretation of the minute repeater—a complication that transforms time into an auditory experience. With only 15 pieces available, this watch is a testament to exclusivity and craftsmanship.
Design and Construction
The 43mm Officer-style case, available in grade 5 titanium, 18k 5N red gold, or platinum, features a polished domed bezel and fluted crown. The minute repeater slide sits on the left side, while a push-button at 4 o'clock opens a hinged hunter caseback, revealing the movement through sapphire crystal. Each case material offers a unique dial finish: titanium with a silver dial and blue hand, red gold with an anthracite dial and gold hand, and platinum with a deep blue dial and silver hand.
Innovative Time Display
Inspired by an 1810 tact watch made for the Prince of Hesse, the Vox Temporis uses a rotating dial beneath a fixed arrow-shaped indicator. This design, created for checking time by touch in the dark, now serves as a canvas for a sunburst pattern under clear varnish. To know the exact minute, one must activate the minute repeater, making the watch an interactive instrument.
Movement and Craftsmanship
Powering the watch is the in-house calibre L601SQR, a hand-wound movement with 321 parts, beating at 3 Hz and offering a 90-hour power reserve. The movement includes a 76-part flying tourbillon, hidden from the front to maintain dial purity. The rear reveals frosty rhodium bridges, hand-bevelled edges, and mirror-polished screws, showcasing exceptional finishing.
Strap and Buckle
The watch comes on an alligator leather strap—black, dark navy, or brown—with large scales outside and smaller scales inside, tone-on-tone stitching, and a skeletonised folding buckle engraved with the brand's double-"L" logo.
Pricing and Availability
The L.Leroy Vox Temporis is limited to 15 pieces total. Prices are £221,000 for titanium, £265,000 for red gold, and £292,300 for platinum. Each piece is a collector's item, blending heritage with horological innovation.
Authenticity and Buying Tips
Given its rarity, verify authenticity through official documentation and serial numbers. Purchase from authorized dealers or reputable platforms. Consider the movement's complexity and service needs. For enthusiasts, the Vox Temporis offers a unique interaction, making it a worthy addition to serious collections.
